Project: HISTORY OF NOW

The stage production "History of Now" will premiere in 2020. The dynamic story will combine stage and screen including flashback scenes and archive film to maximise the potential and intensity of the piece. The production also offers an educational workshop and an outreach program.

The subtle yet powerful opening is engaging in its thoughtful approach to flicking the switch between darkness and light. Within this busy production, there are stories within stories. Dynamic stage sets and the combination of screen and stage add a powerful creative dimension. Yet throughout, it is the presence of Krystyna Haeutmann, the energetic young girl and the elderly reflective lady play perfectly, two leading characters of the same person playing opposite one another. It is both dynamic and a masterstroke that validates the story and believability of the character which is essential to the telling of this story.

Ms. Haeutmann, now eighty years of age, lives in the same house she moved into on her arrival in the United States in 1951 having spent six years in England, where she was unable to settle. A former teacher of literature, she lives a simple life alone but has never allowed herself to feel lonely. In her opinion; a form of self-pity, unbecoming to the memory and legacy of her younger life and brief forced existence. On reading an advertisement in a national newspaper for German-born survivors of the Holocaust to come forward to record their experiences for future generations and realizing her life is drawing to its natural close, she makes the decision to tell her story and reveal her hidden past. However, history shows a secret of its own.

"They were Jews they deserved to die" Haeutmann otherwise calm and calculated in her words burst forward, spinning the reporter round in her chair. "Is that how he still feels?" A rhetorical question which is not lost in the silence that pursues. Throughout the production, Alex Jayson's use of silence at times is deafening in its dramatic pause. This is illustrated perfectly in a segment of the play that appears during Act Two. Haeutmann's narrative becomes increasingly more poignant due to the past moments that again reflected darkness and light. Haeutmann’s mood change now shifts the dynamics of the production. The aged figure appears detached, as though removed from the present her every word, etched in pain, is a footstep taking her back until there is a sense of her presence on stage waiting. Her words stop. There is a still image, no movement until…The young Krystyna enters on stage. The symmetry between the young and old HAEUTMANN's synchronized movements are compelling. Although there is little happening, every single tranquil, undisturbed flick of the wrist becomes even more heightened. Jayson’s skillful writing and directing create a moment that is beautiful and touching. It is powerful in its simplicity. Harrowing in its execution. However witnessing silently as they become bound to each other at this moment, that is a methodical sweeping embrace across the years. A light within the shadow.

The play’s greatest strengths are that it has enough confidence in the audience’s intelligence to avoid spelling things out too explicitly. The relationship between the reporter and Haeutmann whose words drive the play forward with a delicate blend of intellectual and visceral overtures reflect her life and experience against the reporter’s innocence correctly. It is a smart blend that allows the writer to confront and challenge key issues that discharge the need to question their place in time.

It would be wrong to classify this as just one more Holocaust production. In fact, it is an intelligent and entertaining piece of work that engages on many levels that appeals to young and old across all groups. To witness the History of Now as anything less would be like receiving a gift that is so beautifully wrapped that we leave the real gift inside! To fully comprehend Alex Jayson's latest work we must carefully remove the outer packaging to find the right "PRESENT"

Project: River Cruise Company Entertainment for 2019 Season

Overview:

The Company is seeking talented singer/dancers with sparkling personalities to wow our guests on and off the stage!  We are the overnight cruise division of our parent company, operating three luxury paddlewheel riverboats in America’s heartland and the Pacific Northwest. We are growing rapidly, and are preparing to launch boat #4, #5, and #6 soon!  Casting is now underway for the 2019 season aboard a Riverboat, which travels the Columbia and Snake Rivers from our home port of Vancouver, WA.

The Entertainment department features a 4-piece band, a cast of two singer/dancers, a solo lounge act, and a historian/naturalist. Our Production Singers perform in nightly shows, host guest cocktail parties, and lead passenger games and activities.

Expand your range performing musical styles from Broadway to country to disco! Join a team of pros in a growing company with lots of room for promotion!  Work up material for your own solo album, and then sell it in our gift shop!

AQSC Entertainment

Dates:

These positions will work in rotation with another cast throughout our 2019 season, which runs from late February, 2019 - early January, 2020.  Longer-term employment is available, and our company is growing!

Terms & Compensation:
We are seeking candidates for "at-will," employment with no set ending date.  Production Singer pay is $150/day for the first 90 days, with an automatic raise to $175/day following 90 days worked.  A benefits package, including health insurance, also becomes available after 90 days worked.

Key Functions of our Production Singers:

-Nightly musical performances with the Empress Quartet

-Lead passenger games and activities, such as trivia, and bingo, and on-shore hikes

-Host passenger cocktail parties and events; M.C. evening shows and guest entertainers

-Create personal relationships with our guests - be the face of AQSC for our guests!

-Other duties include practicing a safety station bill, assisting with all-crew tasks like loading ship's stores, and other tasks as assigned by the Cruise Director.

PLEASE NOTE:
-No applicants under the age of 21 will be considered!

-We have a strict zero-tolerance policy against employee alcohol use onboard, and against drug use at any time (including marijuana). Hiring is contingent on a pre-employment drug-test, and random drugs tests may be administered throughout employment. If you know this policy will be a problem for you, please do not submit for this position.

Our Philosophy Toward Entertainment:
How can we hope to please everyone? No matter how well we sing or dance, some people simple don't like singing and dancing.  If we somehow brought back Elvis and put him on our stage, someone would say “You know, since you went to all the trouble, I was expecting a better show!”

We bridge that gap by building personal relationships. As a member of our entertainment staff, you’ll be tasked with getting to know our guests - learning their names, taking a personal interest in them, listening to their stories. Our team is responsible for entertainment, not just in the sense of a performer entertaining on the stage, but also in the sense of a host entertaining at a party.  We are looking for outgoing, engaging performers who can come down off the stage and wow our guests face to face!

Project: Casting for Quirky Romantic Comedy

I am producing this short film (approx. 20-25 minutes in length) that follows two young people both looking for love like everyone else but with no clue how to make it happen. The film will take about a day and a half to two days to produce and will predominantly be shot at one location, almost in the feel of a one act play.

Roxanne and Calvin are both young and looking erratically for love. Roxanne's past romance/dating experience has been a mix of walk outs and no call backs making her more and more desperate. Calvin is the nervous type who's often avoided relationships and dating and who this barely knows what he's doing when he is dating. These two find themselves thrown together in a blind date that is almost predestined for failing. What ensures is a combination of comedic missteps Incorporated with a deeply rooted representation of what we'll do when werew desperate enough and that if we keep trying something finally gotta give.
