Project: Auditions for The Cripple of Inishmaan - Wednesday, January 8, 2020

Clackamas Community College will be having auditions for the Winter term main stage production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 3-6pm.

Please prepare a one-minute comedic monologue (preferably with an Irish accent). If you do not have a monologue we will pair you with someone to do cold readings of the play. Please arrive at 3pm. Please submit your profile ASAP and ask for address in your submission notes.

Production dates of the show are: Feb 27 - March 8 (Thur-Sat at 7:30pm and Sun at 2:30pm). There will also be a 10am matinee on March 6th.

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934, The Cripple of Inishmaan is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. As word arrives on Inishmaan that the Hollywood director Robert Flaherty is coming to the neighboring island of Inishmore to film Man of Aran, the one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young Cripple Billy, if only to break away from the bitter tedium of his daily life.

Project: Everybody is Wrong About Politics (Working Title)

This documentary will be an exploration into the effects that religious and political ideology has on individuals, families and society as a whole as we follow several subjects who try to maintain relationships across ideological divides. Each subject approaches various contentious topics to discuss with those closest to them who don’t hold the same views and learns tools to better navigate those conversations. We learn about how our moral intuitions develop, what molds our thinking and how to bridge divides through conversation in meaningful ways.

I was inspired by Jonathan Haidt's book The Righteous Mind and Peter Boghossian's book How to Have Impossible Conversations.

Project: CASTING CALL - Casting Multiple Roles for Feature Film

Greetings any interested acting talent! I am a local filmmaker in the area looking to cast multiple roles in a short feature film that I have written, and will be directing, and am planning on shooting a little later this winter. I am currently in the process of multiple pre-production ventures including finalizing the script, shot listing, location scouting, etc. and thus I am trying to get casting for the piece rolling as well. The film primarily follows one lead but there are a collection of smaller roles I am looking to fill that also have great prominence in the film. I would, roughly, see the shooting of this film taking 5-6 shooting days. There’s multiple different exterior locations but a great deal of the film will be shot in the controlled confines of the lead characters home as well.
Check the story outline listed with this film as it gives a detailed outline for the style of the project which is a deep and dark psychological production delving into the mind of a deeply disturbed woman whose actions at any given time may or my not be based in reality.

The film, tentatively titled “In My Bedroom”, follows a woman named Angela who, by her own account, has long since been abandoned by her ex-husband and children and lives a life on her own. She is seemingly an adventurous person, doing what she can to feel happy and gain some excitement out of life. On the outset of the film there is a serial killer stalking the city streets for his/her prey. No one is of limits as a victim: men, women, young adults, middle-aged adults, etc.) leaving the perpetrator very open to mystery. As this happening Angela appears to be doing her best to live life to its fullest by “picking up” random strangers she meets and taking them back to her place with the objective of a romantic evening. There’s nothing much about her first conquest with a man named Jamie, but we are slowly opened up to more of Angela’s behavior when she picks up a woman named Alexa, who she encounters while Alexa is trying to wander home drunk after a St. Patrick’s Day party. We begin to see, like the serial killer, Angela’s conquests also appear to be whomever she can get.
We begin to develop the revelation that Angela is the real serial killer, even though the public believes the killer to be a male. Every time she takes a person home they turn up dead a short while later, another victim of the city’s serial killer.
However, the more time that passes and the more murder victims turning up dead, the more Angela begins to unravel (even as an already unstable human being in the first place). She’s enraged at the public presumptions of a male killer while she encounters another possible victim who escapes her grasps. But the facade Angela develops (the endless headlines and fear induced as a prominent serial killer to find substance in a rapidly eroding life) completely shatters when she enters her living room only to hear a breaking news report that the serial killer has been identified… and it’s not her. And beyond that, the identified killer is currently in her bed, presumably about to become her next victim… or rather, she’s about to become his. This sets the stage for the final climax of the film as fantasy and reality collide, leaving Angela completely lost between the two, leading to a potentially tragic finale.
